Agricultural Machinery
Loans

Get the machinery your farm needs. Without the cashflow crunch.

Whether you’re upgrading a tractor, financing a new header before harvest, adding a seeder, or investing in a spray rig – the right finance keeps your operation moving without draining the capital your farm runs on. We search across a wide panel of lenders to find the right deal for your situation, your season, and your SA operation.

What we do

A local Adelaide broker who understands farming.

Going to a bank for agricultural machinery finance means seeing one set of products from one lender – and often dealing with someone who’s never set foot on a farm. Coming to Oracle means access to a wide panel of lenders, including specialist agricultural financiers who understand how farm income actually works. And it means dealing with people who’ve been working with SA businesses and primary producers since 2005.

We know SA agriculture – the grain country of the Eyre Peninsula and Mid North, the Barossa and Clare Valley viticulture, the Riverland’s irrigated cropping, the Adelaide Hills horticulture, and the pastoral country further out. We understand that farm income isn’t a neat monthly salary, and we’ll make sure your finance is structured around the way your operation actually runs.

What we can finance

If it’s used on your farm or ag operation, there’s a very good chance we can finance it.

That includes tractors of all sizes and brands, headers and combine harvesters, air seeders and disc seeders, sprayers and spray rigs, balers – round and square, hay rakes and tedders, grain headers and fronts, loaders and telehandlers, silos and grain storage, irrigation equipment and pivots, livestock handling equipment and yards, trailers and chaser bins, utility vehicles and farm utes.

New machinery, used machinery, dealer purchases, private sales, and auction buys – we arrange finance for all of it. No age limit on machinery in most cases. If you’re not sure whether what you’re looking at qualifies, just ask.

Finance structures that suit a farming operation

The right structure depends on your business setup, how you handle GST, and what suits your cashflow and tax position. Here’s how the main options work in plain English.

Chattel mortgage

You own the machinery from settlement day, with the lender holding security over it until the loan is repaid. You can claim the GST component upfront and depreciate the asset over time. The most common structure for GST-registered farming businesses and the right choice if maximising tax benefits matters. Talk to your accountant – we’re happy to work alongside them.

Finance lease

The lender owns the machinery and you make regular lease payments over an agreed term. At the end you can purchase it at the residual value, extend, or hand it back. Lease payments are typically fully tax deductible. Works well for operators who want predictable costs and flexibility to upgrade when the term ends.

Hire purchase

You make repayments until the final payment, at which point ownership transfers to you. Similar outcome to a chattel mortgage, and interest is still deductible over the term.

Operating lease

You use the machinery for a set period and hand it back at the end. No ownership obligation. Suits operations where staying current with technology or upgrading regularly matters more than ownership.

Seasonal repayments

This is one of the most important things we do differently to a bank. Most bank repayments are set up as a fixed monthly amount regardless of when your income actually arrives. For a grain grower waiting on harvest, a viticulture operation in the lead-up to vintage, or a hay contractor working through the summer season, that can put real pressure on cashflow at the wrong time of year.

We work with lenders who understand seasonal farm income and can structure repayments accordingly – aligned to harvest timing, receival periods, or quarterly income cycles rather than a flat monthly schedule. We’ll talk through how your income flows across the year and make sure the repayments match.

Balloon payments

Most agricultural machinery finance products allow for a balloon or residual payment – a lump sum at the end of the loan that reduces your regular repayments throughout the term. For large machinery purchases, this can make a meaningful difference to your day-to-day cashflow.

At the end of the term you can pay out the balloon, refinance it, or sell the machinery – in most cases the resale value of well-maintained farm machinery comfortably covers the balloon. We’ll help you work out whether a balloon makes sense and what size is realistic for your situation.

What about dealer finance?

Some manufacturer finance arms sometimes advertise very low or even zero percent interest rates. It’s worth understanding how these offers work before you sign anything.

In most cases, the low rate is built into the price of the machinery – meaning you’re paying a higher purchase price to access the low rate. The deal may also come with limited flexibility: short loan terms, no balloon option, or restrictions on early payout. It’s not always a bad deal, but it’s worth comparing before you commit.

We’re happy to review any dealer finance offer and give you an honest assessment of whether it stacks up against what we can arrange independently. If the dealer offer is genuinely better, we’ll tell you that.

New machinery, used, or private sale - we finance all of it.

There’s a strong secondhand market for agricultural machinery in Australia and buying used often makes excellent sense – particularly for well-maintained equipment where a previous owner has absorbed the steepest depreciation.

We arrange finance for used machinery regularly, with most specialist lenders having no hard age limit as long as the asset is in reasonable condition. For private sales, we’ll manage the process – including coordinating payment to the seller – so you don’t have to navigate it yourself. We can also arrange a PPSR search on the machinery to confirm there are no encumbrances before you commit to the purchase.

No financials? It's not necessarily a barrier

Not every farming business has two years of clean financials ready to go. Seasonal income variation, recent business changes, or simply being newer to farming can all make standard documentation difficult to produce.

Some lenders on our panel assess applications based on BAS statements, bank statements, and grower contracts rather than requiring full tax returns. We know which lenders take this approach and what you’ll need to put your best foot forward. A brief conversation upfront is all it takes to work out which path suits your situation.

Financing more than one machine?

If you’re doing a full machinery upgrade – new tractor and header, or a tractor and a suite of implements – we can often bundle multiple machines into one finance facility rather than arranging separate loans. This simplifies your repayment structure and can make administration easier across the life of the loan.

We’ll let you know whether a single facility or separate loans makes more sense for your specific situation.

Why work with Oracle?

We’re an independent Adelaide broker working with SA primary producers. We search across a wide panel of lenders – including specialist agricultural financiers who understand farm income – and find the product that suits your operation, your season, and your financial position.

We’ve been doing this since 2005. We know which lenders are most competitive for agricultural machinery, which ones are most flexible on seasonal repayment structures, and how to structure an application that reflects what your operation actually earns rather than just what the tax return shows.

And we’re here for the long term. Most of our farming clients come back to us for their next machinery purchase – and the one after that. That’s the relationship we’re interested in.

How it works

Tell us about your operation – what you’re looking to finance, whether it’s new or used, your approximate timeline, and how your income flows across the year. We’ll identify the right lenders and structures, compare options, and come back to you with a clear recommendation. Pre-approval is typically available within 24 to 48 hours for straightforward applications. Once approved, we coordinate settlement with the dealer, private seller, or auction house so the machinery gets to you without delay.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

What types of agricultural machinery can be financed?

Pretty much everything used in a farming operation – tractors, headers, air seeders, sprayers, balers, rakes, loaders, silos, irrigation equipment, livestock handling equipment, chaser bins, and farm vehicles. New or used, dealer or private sale, single machines or multi-machine packages. If it’s used on your farm, there’s almost certainly a finance option for it.

Can repayments be structured around harvest or vintage?

Yes. This is one of the most important things to get right for farming businesses. We work with lenders who understand seasonal income and can set up repayments that align with your income cycle rather than a fixed monthly schedule regardless of the time of year.

Do I need a deposit?

Not always. Many lenders will finance up to 100% of the purchase price for established farming businesses with a solid profile. For newer operations or more complex credit situations, a contribution can strengthen the application. We’ll be upfront about what’s required for your specific situation.

Can I finance used or older machinery?

Yes. Most specialist agricultural lenders will finance used machinery with no hard age limit as long as the asset is in reasonable condition and serviceable life remains. We’ll advise if anything about a specific machine looks like it might be a sticking point before you commit to a purchase.

What is a balloon payment and should I use one?

A balloon is a lump sum at the end of your loan term that reduces your regular repayments during the loan. For large machinery purchases it can significantly improve cashflow during the finance period. Well-maintained farm machinery typically holds its value well, so the balloon can often be covered by the resale value when the time comes. We’ll help you decide whether a balloon makes sense for your situation.

Can I finance machinery bought at a clearing sale or private auction?

Yes. Private sale and clearing sale finance is something we arrange regularly. You’ll need to move reasonably quickly on settlement timing in some cases – getting pre-approved before the sale puts you in a much stronger position and avoids scrambling for finance after the hammer falls.

Do I need full financials to apply?

Not always. Low-doc options assessed on BAS statements and bank statements are available through some lenders on our panel. We’ll tell you what’s needed for your specific situation in the first conversation.

How long are the loan terms?

Terms typically run from one to seven years. Longer terms mean lower regular repayments but more interest over time. We’ll find the balance that works for your cashflow and the expected life of the asset.
